The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University is seeking a Director of Data Strategy. Under the direction of the Vice Dean, the successful candidate will play a critical role in leading, planning, organizing, directing, and managing the design, development, implementation, operation, and maintenance of the data reporting and analytics infrastructure for the Fulton Schools. The Director will collaborate with leadership and multiple units to develop and execute the strategic direction of the Fulton Schools of Engineering data efforts.
Plans and directs the architectural components of the business intelligence and data analytics infrastructure to support overall data management, data quality, and information needs for key decision makers and Fulton Schools stakeholders (e.g., student and class reporting; research reports; reporting in WorkDay; financial planning reports; budget reports; human resources reporting; etc).
Promotes the use of shared infrastructure and applications to increase efficiency and improve information flows.
Manages risks associated with data and information assets through the development, use, and promotion of the appropriate standards, security, privacy, and governance policies, including continuous testing for security and performance.
Guides the successful execution of data management vision through establishing, supporting, and maintaining of data governance principles, policies, and best practices.
Develops a business intelligence ecosystem in a growing data environment, and initiates and develops ongoing, incremental data management strategies that accelerate the Fulton Schools towards a steady-state blueprint
Identifies issues which may impact the Fulton Schools and data management, resolves problems and issues affecting data management, and directs measures to improve the short term and long term effectiveness of the data team.
Prioritizes work efforts and coordinates project/program deliverables to continuously improve business intelligence and analytics for the Fulton Schools
Controls and manages issues and risks, communication plans, project deliverables and project status including executive reports; provides leadership and expert advice /troubleshooting to the primary owner, executive sponsors, all levels of systems development, analysis, design, and review.
Supervises and facilitates the development of high-impact training materials, training content, training delivery modes, or workshops, meetings and conferences with college stakeholders; oversees logistics, scheduling and target audience communications; builds and shares best practices across the Fulton Schools.
Acts as communication interface across all groups, from day-to-day report users to executive stakeholders.
Manages the day-to-day operational and tactical aspects of business intelligence platforms to ensure stakeholder expectations are met.
Oversees and participates in the hiring, training, and evaluation of data team staff.
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND eight (8) years of related administrative experience, which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, Twelve (12) years of related administrative experience, which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Evidence of a master’s degree in a related field.
Experience with data analysis and data reporting, including experience with very large data sets.
Experience in advanced analytics and predictive modeling techniques.
Experience in using advanced level SQL skills.
Experience reading and writing code with one or more high-level languages (SAS, Python, and R) and SQLServer, SSAS, SSIS, Oracle, Sybase, DB2, Tableau.
Experience in program or project management.
Demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning principles and practices.
Experience in problem solving and decision-making skills.
Experience in planning, analyzing and coordinating activities and establishing priorities.
Experience in management, supervision and evaluating staff.
Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills
Experience in communicating complex issues to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise, including presenting complex technical issues to senior leadership.
Experience in using problem solving skills and applying critical and logical analysis to business scenarios in the context of technology and data architecture.
Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended period of sitting
