The University Technology Office (UTO) at ASU seeks a highly-motivated Senior Data Analyst to join our high performing team. This position will assist with the process of data extracts and overall data management for various data sources for UTO, the Action Lab and EdPlus at ASU. Data management includes data engineering, data schemas, data architecture, data quality, data security, data governance, data extraction and loading and transforming from multiple resources.

The Action Lab Senior Data Analyst (SDA) uses statistical methods to analyze data and generate useful business reports though the development of database queries, scripts, tools, and methods to manage data according to client requirements, within defined technical standards, and within time constraints. The SDA will have strong SQL and Business Analysis expertise with an emphasis is on ETL procedures. The SDA is proficient with relational database concepts and practices, is able to evaluate and write complex queries, scripts, APls, and can create and maintain common database objects such as views, stored procedures, and user-defined functions. The SDA should support SQL or NOSQL and structured vs. non-structured data. The SDA should be familiar with and able to utilize code management and/or revision control tools and follow standard software development practices. The majority of time is spent, writing ad-hoc SQL queries on behalf of clients and stakeholders, analyzing data and functional requirements, and developing and refining ETL processes. SDA should be self-motivated in maintaining data quality, data dictionaries, data catalog for the ASU needs.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology or closely related field AND six years prior relevant experience in a large, multi-user data environment including responsibility for development of customized queries and reports OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Experience in one or multiple data warehouse platforms such as MS SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata, HANA or Google BigQuery databases.
Experience in creating data catalog, data dictionaries, meta data and data schemas.
Experience in designing and operating enterprise data warehouse.
Experience in at least one statistical software: R, STATA, SPSS, SAS, MATLAB or similar.
Experience in data transformation: SQL and Python or any other scripting language is a must.
Experience working with Log files, and Web technologies, both structured and unstructured data.
Experience creating and maintaining ETL pipelines, job schedulers and job automation scripts.
Demonstrated knowledge of SDLC / Agile Methodology. Development best practices.
Experience in working in an environment with deadlines and shifting priorities.
Experience with query performance tuning.
Experience in at least one reporting tool like Tableau, SSRS, Qlik, MS Power BI.
Experience in investigating, familiarizing and mastering new data sets quickly.
Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
Experience in displaying complex quantitative data in a simple, intuitive format and presenting findings in a clear and concise manner
Experience in being a team player.
Dashboard experience with an enterprise class BI and Analytics tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Splunk, Qlik.
Experience with NoSQL, DynamoDB, Casandra, MongoDB, Google Big Query
Experience with extracting data from AWS Cloud, AZURE, SAP Cloud Platforms
Big data application development experience using Apache Hadoop, Spark or EMR related expertise.
Research and Statistical data background
Experience in educational or research institute data analysis and design, LMS, Blackboard, Aleks and Online Educational Data
Experience with advanced data analysis (machine learning, regression, Bayesian, prediction models)
Our offices are located in ASU SkySong, a dynamic center for innovation - home to both start-ups and Fortune 500 companies.
Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing.
