Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Center for Industrial Research and Services (CIRAS) within the College of Engineering at Iowa State University seeks qualified applicants for a Government Contracting Specialist (Program Coordinator III) to provide strategic and technical assistance in the areas of government contracting to Iowa businesses. This position may be part-time or full-time depending on candidate interest.
This position is responsible for counseling and advising business firms/clients on how to seek, obtain and perform on Federal, State and local government prime contracts and subcontracts. The Government Contracting Specialist works collaboratively with a company's executive team to assess company needs, understand the market potential of government procurement, reduce barriers inherent in government contracting, and assist existing government contractors with market expansion. This assistance includes: Advanced Contracting Services, Bid Preparation Assistance, Marketing to the Government, Post Award Assistance and Procurement Preference Programs. The Specialist is also responsible for the development, management, and implementation of the PTAP Statewide Training Plan.
The successful candidate will have effective management and organizational skills, the ability to work well with a diverse population, and the ability to communicate effectively. Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 3 years of related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 9 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Degree in business or procurement related fields such as business development, management, finance, accounting or purchasing and related experience
History of high performance in the government contracting sector
Experience assessing and developing plans for clients needing improvement
Experience that demonstrates creative problem solving
Experience that demonstrates successful strategy planning
Leading, influencing and motivating diverse groups in meeting business objectives
