To serve as the Veterans University Certifying Official (SCO) for Wright State University by coordinating the certification of eligible veterans and dependent students for veterans' benefits and working interdependently with all other campus offices related to this process. Manage the Office of Veteran and Military Center, and assist the Office with other duties as assigned.
Associated Degree with 4 years of full-time veteran/ GI Bill related work experience OR Bachelor's degree with at least two years full-time work experience.
Previous experience with GI Bill Certification and processes. Veteran or military-connected individual.
Essential Functions and percent of time::
50%: Certify eligible veteran and dependent students for veterans' GI Bill benefits. This requires knowledge of university and certification programs and thorough knowledge of federal regulations governing the eligibility and certification of veterans and their dependents. Use of VA ONCE web-based system to electronically certify students for VA benefits-requires working knowledge of other software programs such as Word, Excel, and SIS systems (e.g. Banner). Also work as a liaison with the VA Vocational Rehabilitation counselor to certify enrollment of Chapter 31 veterans and ensure the student's individual academic needs are met. Assist with Veterans Affairs officials at the state and regional level to ensure compliance for audit purposes and accurate certification of enrollment in order for students and the school to receive VA benefits. Create, maintain, and destroy student records according to federal, state, and university regulations. Monitoring and printing of digitally submitted VA enrollment and other documentation.
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word. Experience in writing, editing, and budget management; ability to calculate intermediate math, considerable knowledge and skills to utilize current office equipment and a variety of complex software packages required (e.g. VA-once, Banner). Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Excellent verbal communication skills required. Sedentary clerical work/ light lifting. Monday-Thursday 8:30-5:00pm; Friday 8am-4pm with some weekend and evening hours. Limited annual travel expectations.
