Coordinate, plan, perform, and evaluate accounting and financial reporting functions of the University and operational activities of the Controller's Office including the supervision of professional staff. Provide official external financial reporting and internal financial reports to senior leadership used for strategic planning and goal setting. Oversee accounting process and control function of the University's financial classification and structure and perform administrative duties, including hiring, disciplining, supervising, and performance appraisals of financial specialists. Assist in the oversight of financial compliance in sponsored project management. Serve as support for University's IRIS accounting system.
Provide official external financial reporting and internal financial reports to senior leadership used for strategic planning and goal setting:
Assist with annual NSF Higher Education Research and Development Report (HERD), national report used to measure the University's research outcomes against all other US institutions, including the Top 25 Research Initiative strategic goal, and to measure effectiveness of senior leadership.
Tennessee Higher Education Commission Research and Service Expenditures Summary, used for determining State funding to the University.
Schedule of Federal Assistance, required by federal government regulations for Single Audit.
Prepare sponsored projects year end revenue accrual entries.
Assist with portions of the University's annual audited Financial Statements, used by senior leaders and stakeholders for resource allocation decisions. Includes, but not limited to, Campus Net Position and Changes Statements.
Prepare Scholarships & Fellowships revenue of Part E of the annual Integrated Postsecondary Data Systems (IPEDS) Summary Report.
Assist with portions of the Title VI report for the Tennessee Human Rights Commission, used to ensure upholding of the University's commitment to fundamental principles of equal opportunity to all employees, contractors and students.
Other managerial reports as requested, including Composite Federal Index calculations.
Assist in oversight of financial compliance in sponsored project management:
Post $14M each month in Facilities and Administrative and Cost-sharing expenditures and create billing documents for Sponsored Project Accounting offices.
Monitor University's effort certification process and notify Chief Business Officers on delinquencies.
Review and approve journal entries from all campuses regarding sponsored project activity.
Assist with response to external and internal auditor inquiries on financial compliance of sponsored project processes.
Write and update university fiscal policies as needed.
Oversee accounting process and control function of the University's financial classification and structure:
Supervise creation and review of new accounts, account changes and closure requests, coordination of the account establishment process, review of requests for new sponsors, sponsored project budgets, and adding the appropriate data to the system to ensure accurate financial data and reporting.
Ensures the most effective operations of the accounting process and control function through goal development, process improvement, and coordination/integration of processes with other departments.
Perform administrative duties, including hiring, disciplining, supervising, and performance appraisals for two professional staff and one graduate student.
Serve as IRIS (SAP) Support:
Assist with guidance, design, configuration, implementation, and documentation for the University's IRIS accounting system in the areas of project system.
Assist with the development of IRIS reports and transactions for financial management of sponsored projects.
Ensure proper performance of IRIS system through testing of SAP upgrades and enhancements.
