The Project Manager is a critical role for a $5M, multi-year, multi-site, time-critical project funded by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) to conduct preclinical research and development, and prepare to file an FDA investigational new drug application. The overall program goal is to develop effective retina organoids manufactured under GMP conditions to improve visual responses in a rat model and in a rabbit model of Retinitis Pigmentosa. The Project Manager will coordinate all activities and serve as the operational advisor to a cross-functional research team in order to accomplish program objectives including timely achievement of project milestones and compliance with Federal, State, CIRM and UC policies. The Project Manager will contribute specific knowledge, expertise and experience with preclinical and clinical research and development programs, biotechnology and bio-pharmaceutical drug development, manufacturing and commercialization procedures, and analysis/application of policies governing stem cell research and cell therapies.In conjunction with the Program Director/Principal Investigator, the Project Manager will leverage extensive program management knowledge and prior experience with drug development in order to organize all project activities, following regulations, generating detailed timelines and Gantt charts, coordinating project goals and objectives, tracking and coordinating efforts across team members, facilitating effective information flow and prepare status reports for State and government regulatory agencies. The candidate must have exceptional communication skills and effectively foster coordination and collaboration within and between the research team and key stakeholders/contributors including the sponsor, University, commercialization partner, and award sub-recipients, while managing the concurrent priorities and interrelated goals of each.
