The Director of Supports for Formative Assessment will provide leadership and ongoing oversight and management of formative assessment instructional supports for the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (Smarter Balanced). The primary responsibilities of the Director of Supports for Formative Assessment, in collaboration with Smarter Balanced co-Directors, senior leadership, and Consortium Governing States are to: Develop a strategic vision, with intermediate and immediate goals, to sustain and enhance the assessment system to better improve teaching and learning among member states; Work with technical experts and service providers to The Director will provide expertise in instruction, curriculum development and lesson planning, differentiated instruction, competency-based learning/proficiency-based instruction and formative assessment practices. The Director will coordinate the work of Smarter Balanced content leads and contractors related to the development and acquisition of content, tools and materials that support high quality instruction. The Director will plan state member training implemented by Smarter Balanced and district facing trainings that may be implemented by state members. The Director will report to the Senior Director of Supports for Instruction.
UC Smarter Balanced is a large-scale, online assessment program that serves 6M students and 400,000 educators in California and across the nation. Governed by a consortium of member states, UC Smarter Balanced executive committee, governing board, and K-12 educators provide valuable input into the design and delivery of standardized assessment for states, territories, and Bureau of Indian Affairs. The program is organized within the division of continuing education, UCSC Extension, University of California, Santa Cruz. Our headquarters is located at UCSC Silicon Valley Campus, 3175 Bowers Avenue, Santa Clara, CA 95054.
This is a remote position, which requires employees to work from a home office and be available to travel, when needed.
Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Academic background and recognized expertise in academic development and educational partnerships.
Leadership experience in academic and / or K-14 education.
Extensive knowledge in state and national educational structures and policies, current educational theories, and successful educational equity programs.
Demonstrated expertise building collaborations between academia, education, and community agencies
Selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
