The Planning, Design & Construction Management office oversees the design and construction of the university's built environment. This position will join a highly productive and energetic team that manages the development of the physical campus. This position will be working closely with the other members of the department, university community, outside consultants and contractors as well as governing agencies to manage the project from initial concept through occupancy.
Bachelors’ degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Planning, Construction Management or Engineering, OR equivalent combination of education and experience. The ideal candidate would have 1. Work experience (design and/or construction) on higher education buildings – classrooms, offices, dining halls, residence halls, etc. 2. Knowledge of NC building codes and estimating practices 3. Strong architectural and graphic design sensibilities 4. Strong project manager skills 5. Ability to work well as a team and be a good communicator
Special Skills Or Experience:
LANGUAGESKILLS. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret construction plans and specifications. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions or provide recommendations both orally and in writing. Ability to compose correspondence in a clear and concise manner to document contract actions, and provide accurate direction to contractors.
MATHEMATICALSKILLS. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONINGABILITY. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Other Skills. Proficiency with current version Auto CAD, spreadsheets, word processing, and Microsoft Project Scheduling software is required
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS. Professional registration in Architecture or Engineering is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Work as a team with the rest of the Planning, Design and Construction Management professionals to 1. Planning: a. Review existing site and building conditions and make recommendations on how to improve b. Work with university colleagues to develop the building c. Develop project budgets d. Assist the University Architect on master plan and feasibility studies. e. Maintain and update CAD files f. Maintain and update as-built drawings and project files g. Maintain and update square foot database h. Coordinate and prepare materials for meetings and presentations. i. Select outside design consultants as needed j. Serve on campus committees as needed related to campus development 2. Design: a. Maintain and update design and construction guidelines b. Coordinate the interaction among consultants, government agencies, and University colleagues to achieve timely and cost effective completion of construction documents. c. Review project plans and specifications during all project phases assuring conformance with University standards, zoning and building codes. d. Create construction documents for minor renovations and construction projects in accordance with applicable building codes and standards of practice. e. Bid and award projects with outside contractors
3. Construction management: a. Facilitate owner/architect/contractor progress meetings. b. Coordinate the interaction among consultants, contractors, government agencies, and University clients to achieve timely and cost effective completion of construction and renovation projects. c. Maintain accurate monitoring of fund expenditures d. Coordinate relocation of building occupants and installation of University provided furniture and equipment. e. Inspect work-in-progress on construction sites to verify quality of field work. f. Facilitate timely resolution of construction problems and document changes. g. Verify accuracy of application for payments. h. Maintain accurate project files including shop drawings, blueprints, payments, change orders, and general correspondence. i. Participate in the post occupancy follow-up inspection of completed work. 4. General administration: a. Serve as PDCM representative on committees and task forces b. Attend departmental and division meetings c. Perform any other duties that may be assigned.
