The schedule for this position is 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, but variable hours, evenings, holidays, and some weekends will be required as needed.

UW Medicine Consolidated Laundry is a shared services organization, which supports all of UW Medicine including University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, UW School of Medicine, and UW Physicians Network and other regional healthcare facilities. The department effectively and efficiently manages linen resources and costs, while maintaining quality patient care and comfort.
Consolidated Laundry has an outstanding opportunity for a LAUNDRY CHIEF ENGINEER-MANAGER. Under the general direction of the Director of Consolidated Laundry, the Laundry Chief Engineer-Manager (Chief Engineer) will direct the work of Plant Maintenance and Building Maintenance staff.
Responsibilities of the Chief Engineer include, but are not limited to:
Manage the activities of plant maintenance staff and building maintenance staff, which includes monitoring work performance and reviewing performance evaluations for assigned personnel.
Manage the effective use of all natural resources, energy, and materials necessary to operate Engineering and Building Maintenance departments.
Write, implement, and monitor a complete a PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM with ultimate goal of zero unplanned downtime.
Develop financial management and energy controls, PLC, Electrical, Hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical troubleshooting.
Schedule and manage major repairs, installations, and upgrades of machinery, systems, and buildings.
Schedule all work hours, overtime, vacations, etc., for Engineering and Building Maintenance Departments.
Write bid specifications and solicit bids from vendors for machinery and buildings. Participate in vendor selection process.
Handle the procurement for Engineering and Building Maintenance to ensure adequate supply and best value attainable.
Coordinate the outside contractors in the repair parts for upkeep of plant equipment and specialty consultants.
Responsible for in-house fire responses team and a permanent member of Safety Committee.
Orient new employees and provide on-the-job training to assigned personnel.
Assist Director in preparation of annual budget for Engineering and Building Maintenance.
Manage department's annual budget including utilities energy savings program.
Act in an advisory capacity to Director regarding the Engineering and Building Maintenance Departments.
Generate purchase orders and process invoices for payment.
Coordinate all building, equipment, and system inspections by government agencies.
Other duties as assigned by the Director.
2-year college degree.
Certified 3rd Grade City of Seattle Boiler Operator License.
At least two (2) years' experience managing a plant maintenance program in an industrial plant.
At least five (5) years' mechanical hands-on experience with a good working knowledge of steam, water, electrical, and air systems.
Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical and plumbing blue prints.
Must have excellent organizational skills and demonstrated leadership ability.

Must have excellent computer skills.
Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
Must have ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
