The Manager, Clinical Informatics Surgical Systems is primarily responsible for directing the activities of a care-venue-centric team focusing on adoption of clinical technology and electronic documentation processes at LifePoint facilities. This position reports to the Director of Clinical Informatics, Acute Systems within the Clinical HITS team. Efforts are directed toward the goal of enhancing processes, build, and content that lead to increased safety, quality, efficiency and effectiveness of patient care in LifePoint facilities
This position has responsibility for various surgical systems throughout the LifePoint enterprise which encompasses not only clinical processes, but also system technologies. This role assists in the development of training materials, system build and the execution of the strategy to prepare physicians and other clinicians for the adoption of electronic clinical systems as well as technical support, for assigned systems.
This position requires credible clinical knowledge; an understanding of clinical informatics; experience in the development and implementation of various surgical systems and clinical documentation; creating training materials; interacting with the physician population; mastery of Surgical/Operating Room criteria; interest in product and process enhancements; vendor interaction; project management; and experience leading a team. Impacts the business aspects of the enterprise, as well as the clinical aspects through work with other HSC stakeholders regarding charge capture and integrity, as well as data reporting. Serves a pivotal role in vendor management for the assigned system.
This individual provides direction in defining and communicating expectations. He/she participates in the development of executable plans leading to transformation of physician /provider surgical documentation, as well as the larger clinical operations of the organization. This position must not only be highly skilled in communication with stakeholders, but also must demonstrate expert ability in the functionality of the core EHR systems in which they are working, as well as other clinical technology as it interacts with the core system or workflow. A key aspect of this role is working collaboratively with OR Operations, the physicians/providers, HSC and hospital leadership teams, and other clinicians to ensure a seamless approach to patient data automation and improved efficiency of the clinician, and improving patient engagement and outcomes across the organization. Works collaboratively through the facility CNO in change management activities.
Change Management across the organization is a critical factor for success and is a focal point for the Manager, Clinical Informatics Surgical Systems. This role ensures a clear focus on process improvement, quality, and patient safety by the use of information systems and point of care technology throughout the clinical transformational journey. This position requires residence in the Brentwood, TN area, and approximately 65% travel.
Leads technology for all surgical solutions across the LifePoint enterprise partnering with platform owners and Med Management leadership within Clinical HITS.
Collaborates with OR operations and clinical teams to assure strategies and goals are available within the software systems whenever possible.
Manages implementations, upgrades and support of surgical clinical systems.
Establishes vendor governance practice to assure projects are staffed appropriately, best practices are instituted and customer service levels are met.
Consults with OR department leadership as needed to assist with best practices, and process flows in collaboration with HSC OR operations.
Provides feedback from physicians/providers / facility leaders and staff to Operations and HITS leadership as appropriate.
Manages schedules of employee and contractors to achieve position objectives.
Drafts and submits budget recommendations where necessary.
Engages directly in issue identification and problem solving around clinician /provider training related to the planning, implementation and adoption of clinical technologies within assigned facilities.
Functions as a liaison between facility providers and staff, HITS leadership, and HSC teams to ensure successful adoption of patient data automation processes as well as communication of requested enhancements and critical issues, working closely with the Director of User Experience.
Stays current on informatics and EHR trends, experiences and approaches.
Coordinates the monitoring of adoption metrics and new system setup and training outcomes to ensure compliance with CMS requirements, LifePoint operational guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
Oversees activities and outcomes of team members’ efforts; providing feedback, coaching, and performance improvement expectations as appropriate.
Develops positive and goal-oriented relationships with facility leadership as well as medical and clinical staff.
Collaborates with HITS Leadership with strategy, goals and future technology for Surgical Services.
Develops and maintains project plans and coordinate activities with other leaders of within HITS, the HSC, the facilities, and in collaboration with vendors
Organizes and plans implementations, upgrades, as well as support of all OR systems, particularly, Meditech ORM, MedHost CQI/PIMS, and endoscopy solutions including any changes needed with the assistance of the OR Systems Informatics team and Med Management team
Assures that Life Point quality and regulatory requirements are designed for all software systems, and support given for builds as needed.
Works collaboratively on development of best practices and standards that align with LifePoint’s future state.
Supports needs of OR Directors across the enterprise with education, questions, best practices, process flows, as related to technology, in collaboration with HITS Medication Management team and HSC OR operations.
Establishes vendor governance and relationships to assure projects are managed
Fosters the elevation of the practice of clinical informatics within the HITS team and enterprise-wide.
Participates in CI conferences, education and questions as it relates to Surgical systems
Fulfills other duties and responsibilities assigned or delegated by the Director or his/her designee.

Bachelor degree in nursing is required. Master’s preparation is desirable
Minimum of 5 years of Surgical Services Department experience
Surgical Services Department management experience strongly desired
Experience working with at least one OR system used throughout LifePoint Surgical Department systems, preferably Meditech ORM: prior experience with design, build and implementation is required.
High level of interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate both in writing and verbally, Excellent written, proofreading, and verbal communication skills required
Must be detail oriented, organized, and have the ability to multi-task.
Is self-motivated and has the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the Corporation and the immediate supervisor
Demonstrates supportive relationships with peers, clients, partners, and LifePoint executives.
Ability to retain and protect confidential material.
Strong computer skills such as PC, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio (MS Office) required
