Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure’s Chelmsford, MA office is seeking an Engineer or Geologist with appropriate experience to support our growing sediments practice area. Anticipated work will focus on remediation planning documents for sediment sites to support feasibility studies, engineering design, permitting and construction.
The position will involve all facets of environmental remediation with a focus on feasibility studies, investigations, design, permitting and construction management support for contaminated sediment sites. This position offers the opportunity to work with a large and diverse team of scientists and engineers to address complex environmental challenges executing the following roles / responsibilities:
Prepare engineering evaluations and feasibility studies, design sediment and other remedies and develop conceptual cost estimates
Prepare project planning and reporting documents including investigation work plans, sampling and analysis plans, remedial action plans, permitting submittals and construction complete reports
Analyze and interpret environmental data and prepare related reports
Prepare and / or support development of environmental permit applications for remediation work in water resources in support of sediment remediation projects
Develop and review plans, specifications and special provisions for remediation projects
Prepare requests for proposals and assist in subcontractor procurement
Develop or support proposals specific to sediment remediation projects
Oversee remedial action implementation and provide construction management support including review of contractor submittals
Skills / Qualifications
BS in Civil / Environmental / Chemical Engineering or Geology
4 to 10 years of design or construction experience with a focus on environmental applications in site remediation (sediments work is a plus)
Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification, Professional Geologist (PG) or other appropriate environmental certification
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. Strong organizational abilities
Demonstrated professional judgment, consistency and attention to detail
Ability and willingness to travel to project sites within New England. Anticipated travel expected to be less than 10% overnight travel; however, extended travel up to two weeks is possible at times
Adaptability and willingness to adjust to client needs
Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours if required
Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
MS in Civil / Environmental / Coastal Engineering or MS in Geology
Professional Engineer registration other appropriate registration or ability to obtain within 1 year
Understanding construction means and methods for remediation of contaminated sediment sites, including various types of excavation or dredging, dewatering and dredge water treatment processes, disposal and reuse options for dredged materials, capping and in-situ sediment treatment
Construction inspection / oversight experience
Experience implementing remedial solutions for in-water contamination
Sediment sampling in various environments and knowledge of sediment sampling methods
Experience preparing or supporting the development of engineering cost estimates, client presentations and various environmental permit applications, with emphasis in New England states.
40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training
Ability to work both independently, as part of a team and self-starter
