The Technology Transfer Operations and Compliance Director will support the commercialization of CSHL technologies through the oversight of and responsibility for technology transfer technology disclosure, contract, compliance and process management including assuring that CSHL meets the obligations of government, foundation, industry and other research funders and collaborators as well complies with internal policies. This position will develop and expand on the current framework to monitor and manage sponsorship compliance.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the Bayh-Dole Act and the ability to review and interpret various contracts, including material transfer, research collaboration, sponsored research and license agreements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Invention Sponsorship Compliance and Technology Disclosure Management
a. Assure completion of technology disclosures for all cases under management including working directly with scientists to complete and collect necessary information, forms and signatures.
b. Review and investigate all funding relevant to each Technology Disclosure to assure compliance with funder obligations while building and maintaining new and on-going relationships with industry partners, foundation and federal funding agencies.
c. Assure recording of relevant technology disclosure details and alerts in iEdison, Wellspring and process and actions to address alerts.
d. Assure compliance with the Bayh-Dole Act and relevant regulations.
e. Assure all collaborators and contributing scientist and third party revenue sharing information is determined and carried out according to policy.
Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) Liaison
a. Designated liaison with OSP to coordinate NIH invention management and other research funder or research collaborator reporting and obligations regarding compliance with funder obligations and internal research policies.
b. Develop and implement procedures and policies as needed with approval of the VP of Sponsored Programs and/or VP Technology Transfer & Business Development as needed.
Report Creation & Management
a. Develop, design and create agreement, invention, patent status, metrics and custom reports for use by Technology Transfer Office.
b. Create reports for HHMI, foundations and other institutions as required by funding agreement
c. Liaise with the Corporate and Foundation Relations Coordinator in creation of certain presentations.
License Maintenance & Management
a. Review and monitor new and existing agreements for compliance with sponsor requirements.
b. Monitor reports and updates from licensees to ensure compliance with the terms of licenses.
c. Develop and maintain relationships with licensees, solicit net sales and progress reports, and determine if reports satisfy requirements of license agreement.
d. Coordinate and manage the process to notify licensees of missed diligence and financial obligations and facilitate amendments to licenses or other actions as needed.
e. Implement and oversee licensee audits as needed.
Development and Oversight of Technology Transfer Processes and Database in Support of Portfolio, Case and Compliance Management
a. Assure complete accurate records in Wellspring database
b. Implement contract (including research agreement obligations) and patent alerts system
c. Implement process and actions to follow up alerts
d. Implement and manage data and compliance audit process
e. Implement and manage a Wellspring-based faculty portal
f. Develop and implement an MTA management module
a. Oversight of Office of Technology Transfer Website
b. Point person for database vendors
c. Supervision of the IP/Agreement Database and Accounting Manager
d. Other duties as requested

• Decisions on when to implement proper discretion and consult or seek approval from others. Decisions regarding when to manage alerts and other matters personally and when to consult with or refer matters to other team members.

Freedom to Act:
• Interaction with others in the Technology Transfer and other departments is essential but we would expect this individual to have the maturity, poise and experience to work unsupervised and seek engagement and input from the team as needed.
Daily interaction/communication with other CSHL departments (for example OSP, IT, Accounting, Development), scientists, vendors, research sponsors; collaborating institutions; law firms, companies and other external partners.
