The core activities will cover the administrative management of the DSL including: Finance; Human Resources; Property and Facilities Management; Board Support, Legal and Compliance functions.
The key responsibilities for the role will be:
Financial management and accounting of a charity with an annual operational turnover of around £10 million
Preparing succinct and comprehensive Board and Sub-Committee management information highlighting the key drivers of and recommendations for the school
Supporting the Head Master in managing educational staff and pedagogical goals
Strategic leadership of all administration staff, supported by senior staff members in HR, Facilities, Finance, Marketing and IT
Directing the Human Resources function for all administrative staff, including recruitment, induction and training, contract documentation, references, handbooks, maintaining of personnel files, vetting of new staff and contractors; and administrative HR support for pedagogical staff
Responsibility for Property, Facilities Management and Digital Infrastructure for the school, including large- and small-scale capital projects
Compliance, data protection and health and safety; acting as Company Secretary
Business development strategy with the Head Master including fundraising, public relations and marketing
Reporting Lines and Resources
The role reports to the Chair of the Board and has a close working relationship with the Head Master and the Board as a whole. Importantly, the CD must develop and maintain a supportive working relationship with the teaching staff, including the Head Master.
Direct reports to the CD include the ICT Support Manager; the Facilities Manager; the HR Manager; the Finance Manager and the Publications Officer.
In addition, the CD will need to create and maintain good relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including education authorities, the German Embassy and government education departments, professional advisors and charities.
The successful candidate will:
Have strong administrative and financial track record obtained as a General Manager, Chief Financial Officer or Chief Operations Officer or similar role, preferably in a multinational organisation
Be fluent in German and English, with knowledge and experience of British and German culture and mind-set
Have a track record of leading and managing a multi-function team with a focus on results.
Be an excellent communicator with strong influencing skills to deliver change across a broad stakeholder universe
Have experience of working at Board level and able to deliver effective management and Board communication.
