RIX Industries (www.rixindustries.com) is seeking a dynamic new Director of Accounting and Finance to lead the department and become a fully participating and value-added member of the management team.The Director of Accounting and Finance is primarily responsible for the financial well-being of the organization by providing financial projections and accounting services, preparing growth plans, and directing staff. The Director of Accounting and Finance will be responsible for managing the five-person staff and functions of the Controller, Accounting, and Human Resources.As the senior financial person in the organization, reporting to the President, the Director of Accounting and Finance will not only be an exceptional accountant and hands-on with company finances but will also be commercially aware, advising on the best path of growth for the business. The Director of Accounting and Finance has overall control and responsibility for all financial aspects of company strategy and is expected to analyze figures and implement recommendations based on these findings. As a member of the company’s Management Team, the Director of Accounting and Finance may also be called upon to work with customers explaining the legal and financial reasoning in a proposal.Areas of priority for this position include active participation in the management of the company, focusing on the big picture, taking initiative, striving for continuous improvement, earning the trust and respect of others, and providing and explaining data to other managers that has context and insight to effectively run their divisions.
EXPECTED OUTCOMESIt is expected that the Director of Accounting and Finance will achieve the following by the end of three months:• Will have met with each member of their department, the individual members of the management team, the external auditor, and outside stakeholder • Working with IT, reports are RIX standardized, on point, structured to be understood by a Director level • Will have developed an understanding of the company’s objectives and SOPs • Will understand the key elements of RIX accounting and how each element contributes to the accounting mission It is expected that the Director of Accounting and Finance will achieve the following by the end of six months:• Will fully understand, generate, and support RIX accounting and Department of Defense accounting structure • Will have the ERP system providing specific data and explanations • Will understand the critical components of the RIX business model and where each of the components provides input to the RIX standardized reports It is expected that the Director of Accounting and Finance will achieve the following by the end of the first year:• Legacy reports will have been reviewed, revised, or replaced with RIX standard financial reports, tied to the flow of business, and laid out in a format that provides maximum value to the manager • The accounting department will be energized and working on their individual and collective development plan(s) • Will be seen as a fully participating and value-added member of the management team PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIESSuccessful candidates will have the following combination of experience that will allow them to achieve the outcomes noted above:• Eight plus years in a government, project cost accounting environment • Professional experience in a $30-$100 million company • Background in managing and developing a department of five to eight, to include human resources • Department of Defense contract accounting related experience; FAR and DFAR, DCAA, and DCMA audits • Manufacturing and project experience • Demonstrated experience generating material leading indicators • Experience in a customized, high product mix, low volume environment • Hands-on experience using ERP systems • A background in inventory management • Financial management, budgeting, and forecasting experience • Hands-on, with a can-do attitude • Emotional and social intelligence • Experience in change management • Ability to explain and provide data to managers that has context and insight to effectively run their division • Excellent communicator, written and verbal EDUCATIONSuccessful candidates will have the following combination of skills and education that will allow them to achieve the outcomes as noted above:• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field • Graduate degree preferredCULTUREThe ideal candidate will possess a work style and personality that will create an excellent fit with the organization’s culture and structure:• One of support for the other managers and the accounting department • Focuses on the “big picture” and honors the storied history of success of the company • Active participation • One of taking initiative • Post decision; we go forward as a team • Sense of humor • Solid trust of and respect for each other • People are held accountable • Continuous improvement • Open work process • Employees have an emotional investment in the success of the company THE COMMUNITYBenicia is a Bay Area city located adjacent to the Carquinez Strait, which is part of the San Francisco Bay. Benicia is 37 miles from San Francisco, 24 miles from Napa, and 160 miles from Lake Tahoe. A waterfront City of 28,000, Benicia is known for its small-town charm, history, and high quality of life. Benicia offers an abundance of leisure and recreational activities. The city has a full-service marina and several municipal parks and is home to the Benicia Capitol State Historic Park and Benicia State Recreation Area, a nearly 500-acre open space area located adjacent to Southampton Bay. The Parks and Community Services Department offers a variety of recreation activities and programs.Benicia’s climate is temperate and Mediterranean, resulting in dry, warm summers and moderate winters. Annual rainfall averages nineteen inches and falls mostly from December through April. The warmest month of the year is July, with an average high temperature of 87 degrees, while the coldest month of the year is December, with an average high temperature of around 55 degrees. The mean annual temperature is 63 degrees.COMPENSATION AND INTERVIEW PROCESSThe compensation package includes a salary of $170,000 and excellent benefits, to include options for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401K, and profit sharing.
