Program Associate - Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues
The Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues is designed to advance the most critical international relationship of our era. Through events that bring together American and Chinese leaders from government, business, and the academy, and through research and teaching that engages faculty and students in both countries, the Initiative aims to create a leading platform for dialogue that acknowledges political and ideological divides while promoting understanding and collaboration.
The PA supports the Initiative leadership in the administration of the Initiative's research, teaching, outreach and communications activities.
Event Planning and Management : In collaboration with the Director of Programs and any internal or external partners, the PA manages most aspects of event preparation, execution, and follow-up. Specific responsibilities include scheduling and logistics, coordination and management of vendors, oversight of event budgets and payments, coordination of travel arrangements and accommodations, communications outreach via traditional and social media platforms, strategic planning with regard to events, and serving as the frontline representative of the Initiative at its events.
Communications : The PA assists in raising awareness of the Initiative's programs and activities through disseminating information through mailing lists, which he/she manages, social media platforms and other means of communication. The PA is responsible for bilingual content management for the Initiative website, newsletter, and social media, and often drafts event announcements, web materials, periodical reports and other Initiative publicity outreach, and assists with other publications and marketing efforts as needed.
Financial Administration : The PA sets up contracts and independent contractor agreements, pays invoices, and prepares and processes financial transactions, while at all times adhering to Grantors and university restrictions and guidelines governing such transactions. The PA reconciles accounts on a monthly basis and maintains source documentation for transactions.
Faculty and Student Programs : The PA supports the administration of faculty and student programs. This includes the promotion of the programs inside and outside the Georgetown community, the management of events and travel, and the reconciling of expenses.
This is a one-year, renewable, term appointment.
The PA reports to the Initiative Managing Director and the Director of Programs and interacts with Office of the Vice President for Global Engagement staff, faculty and staff in a number of departments across the university, students, and the general public. The PA assists in the supervision of 1-2 students and performs other tasks as assigned.
Bachelor's degree required.
Interest in U.S.-China relations and global affairs.
Proficiency in Chinese and fluency in English, including excellent English written and oral communication abilities.
Self-starter with outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work creatively within a team.
Exceptional attention to detail and professional time-management.
Knowledge of MS Office Suite, Google Apps and social media platforms.
Additional Experience/Skills Desired:
2 years of experience in events and budget management preferred but not required.
