The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) Director is a critical role for a $5.6M, 7 year, multi-site, time-critical program funded by the US Department of Education (DoEd) to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. The overall program goal is to provide services at high-poverty middle and high schools in the Compton Partnership and serve an entire cohort of students beginning no later than the seventh grade and follow the cohort through high school. The GEAR UP Director will coordinate all activities and serve as the operational advisor to a cross-functional GEAR UP Advisory Board in order to accomplish program objectives including timely achievement of program milestones and compliance with Federal, State, GEAR UP and UC policies.
Under the general direction of the Deputy Director for the Center for Educational Partnerships (CFEP), and in conjunction with the Principal Investigator (PI), the GEAR UP Director will leverage extensive program management knowledge and prior experience with improving academic achievement for the implementation of the GEAR UP grant including supervision of all affiliated personnel and subcontracts. The primary purpose of the GEAR UP Director is to ensure the continued viability and presence of GEAR UP by complying with and abiding by all federally-mandated requirements of the program. In addition, the GEAR UP Director will organize a consortium of stakeholders to improve the educational outcomes for target school students, initiate ongoing communication between target schools, GEAR UP partners, and community-based organizations. Grant compliance and meeting stipulated goals, objectives and outcomes are primary functions of this position. The GEAR UP Director will establish short- and long-term strategies to accomplish the GEAR UP program goals and objectives.
The successful candidate will be a dedicated leader with successful experience managing large grants, working with middle and high school students, school governance organizations, community-based organizations and building collaborations to implement innovative methods focused on improving academic achievement, college enrollment and completion rates.

Salary: Range $69,000.00 - $85,000.00 Total Hours: 8-5, M-F Career Position. The primary worksite will be at assigned schools in the Compton Unified School District. Frequent evening and weekend hours may be required. Six-week summer residential program may require GEAR UP Director to live in-residence on-campus with housing provided.
