The BIORESOURCE and AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA, invites applications for a tenure-track, academic year position. Starting date is negotiable, but on or before September 12, 2019, is preferred. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in: general irrigation design, irrigation water management, drip and micro irrigation, and landscape irrigation.
Duties may also include, but are not limited to, supervision of undergraduate senior projects, graduate student research, student advising, and teaching graduate level courses. The successful candidate will participate in scholarly activities (i.e., research, grant writing, publications, and presentations) in an area of expertise directly related to Irrigation Engineering and education. Service activities will include participation on department, college, and university committees and instructionally related activities. Scholarly activities and interest should center on application of the teaching topics as they pertain to the on-farm surface, sprinkler, and drip irrigation, landscape irrigation, and water resources in California.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
Doctorate degree in Irrigation, Engineering, Technical Education, or a related field is required. Applicants should have a combination of teaching, industry, practical and/or research experience in the field. Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills. The ability to be a productive team player and to interact well with peers, students, industry, government agencies, and the general public is essential. Must demonstrate commitment to inclusivity and diversity. Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching are required. Candidates must also demonstrate an ability to initiate, complete, secure external funding, and publish research.

Industry experience is preferred. Certifications as an irrigation contractor and design specialist are desired. This position requires an individual who has demonstrated the ability to provide undergraduate and graduate students with a hands-on technical education in a multidisciplinary environment. Experience with online course development and online teaching preferred. Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and laboratory-based instruction. The ability to collaborate on research with faculty across the College, University, and industry is desirable.
