The Site HSSE Manager is responsible for occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, worker safety and health, medical services, environmental compliance, environmental remediation, environmental sampling and analysis, and construction safety on a fixed project site. The position will be responsible for continued development and implementation of Wood HSSE Procedures for construction remediation, maintenance, and commissioning projects for our US Construction Remediation portfolio of projects.
The Site HSSE Manager will functionally report to the Global HSSE Director of Construction and directly report to the Vice President of US Construction Remediation or delegee.
Coordinate and act as interface between EM385 - 1 - 1 programs and Wood E&IS procedures and technical standards
Act as initial point of contact between field - based HSSE teams and operations management
Administer the process for the development of subcontractor HSSE key performance indicators and criteria for coordination between local offices and regional operations management
Analyze Hazards and Develop and Implement Controls
Actively participate in Activity Hazard Analysis, Method Statement reviews, engineering design studies, training program development, and personal protective equipment selection
Support project management in oversight of subcontractor method statement preparation and training & competency determination including the processes used for appraisal of technical adequacy, appropriateness and closure of non - conformance corrective actions
Incorporate Wood HSSE Blue Book Assurance elements in to project - specific procedures ensure consistency with client requirements and outsourced prequalification entities
Represent and speak for project HSSE to E&IS concerned parties, client representatives, and stakeholders (e.g. presenting, explaining, selling, defending and negotiating)
Facilitate project management use of lessons learned generated from E&IS - wide incidents and near misses and corrective actions generated from monthly subcontractor HSSE reviews
Manage incident and near miss investigation program and advertisement and improvement to HEART programs
Support E&IS project and client management and S&D in continuous interactions with ultimate customer and participate in routine interface activities
Leadership and Management teams in Capital Projects and Canada, plc Strategic Projects, S&D and local Office & Regional Managers
Collaborate with HSSE, Assurance, and Chief Technical Officer to ensure one way of delivery
Senior management and Health, Safety, and Nuclear technical representatives from Canadian Nuclear agencies and contractors; provincial working groups / industry bodies, service providers, equipment vendors, and third - party representatives
Skills / Qualifications
Degree in environmental health, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, health physics, or relevant discipline
OSHA 30, EM385 - 1 - 1, NFPA 70E training
CSP, CHST, ASP designations
5+ years’ experience in a HSSE role within a technical services or construction business
Proven technical engineering discipline experience, preferably in environmental construction
Extensive experience in OHSA and working in a large complex organization
Proven record of developing, implementing and embedding a safety culture
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical safety expectations and issues
Familiarization with relevant legislation and regulations
Knowledge of Management System Standard (e.g.ISO - 9001, 14001, 18001)
Development and delivery of adult learning systems and competency assurance
Proficiency with applicable provincial HSSE laws, global standards and regulatory frameworks
Design and implementation of integrated safety management systems on multi - employer worksites
Proven record of safety delivery and continuous improvement
Established and achieved challenging project HSSE performance targets
Demonstrated a commitment to continuous learning and development
Demonstrated technical excellence
Demonstrated innovative strategies and implemented long term solutions
