There is an opening for a Director of Finance and Operations at Fayetteville Academy for the 2019-2020 school year. This is a full-time, 12-month position and begins on July 1, 2019 (or earlier if mutually agreed upon by the school and the successful candidate). The Director of Finance and Operations oversees all financial aspects involved with the operation and maintenance of economic growth and sustainability for Fayetteville Academy. They serve as a member of the Fayetteville Academy Administrative Team and report directly to the Head of School in fulfilling all duties.
Position Expectations Include but Are Not Limited To
Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with all client communities.
Developing and managing budgets in all areas:
Directing or assisting with contract negotiations on behalf of Fayetteville Academy, including but not limited to those involving:
Fayetteville Academy Faculty and Staff
Vendors working with Fayetteville Academy
Outside renters of Fayetteville Academy facilities
Capital projects (e.g., architects, contractors, city government)
Developing, staffing and overseeing a formal Human Resources program
Supervising all personnel working in the Business Office departments
Participating in Board of Trustee subcommittees, including:
Serving as direct liaison to the Budget and Finance Committee
Other committees over a short or long term as appropriate to the committee’s ongoing tasks (e.g. Buildings and Grounds Committee)
Tracking and communicating with administrative colleagues and trustees concerning evolving educational legislation
Keeping the head of school informed in a timely manner concerning the progress of all work
Bachelor’s degree (MA/MBA preferred) in Business, Management, or Finance
At least 8-10 years of professional experience in financial management and accounting
Extensive background and experience in
Financial and budget analysis
Institutional planning and forecasting
Data collection and management
Human resource management
Experience in an independent school or other non-profit setting is preferred
Verbal skills and positive personality to handle contacts with trustees and trustee committees, professional colleagues and any other individuals who come in contact or have business with the Business Office.
An understanding of and ability to track evolving legislation related to school operations.
The ability to serve as a financial advisor, providing the head of school with information and feedback that will enhance the ability to achieve school-wide goals
A team player, willing to work with the administrative team for the common goals of the school
The ability to establish a positive working climate for Business Office employees, establishing clear communication and performance expectations
The ability to uphold the extreme nature of confidentiality of the work of the Business Office.
