Under immediate direction, reads meters, performs water taps and related water maintenance distribution and service work including inspection and maintenance of meters, works with contractors to repair water systems and locate service lines and mains.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Three months experience in water system maintenance or in a related field required. Must live within 17 miles of the corporate limits of Iowa City, Iowa within one year of appointment to the position. Valid Iowa Class B commercial driver’s license with air brake and tanker endorsements required. Valid Iowa Class A commercial driver’s license with air brake and tank endorsements required within 6 months of hire. This position is subject to federal drug testing requirements. A pre-employment drug test required. Must be 18 years of age per Iowa Code 92.8. Must pass criminal background check.
One year of college or technical school from an educational institution accredited by a DOE recognized accreditation body and twelve months experience in water system maintenance or in a related field preferred. Iowa DNR Grade I Water Distribution Certification preferred.
