The newly established laboratory of Dr. Florian Douam is looking for a research assistant to manage its humanized mouse model platform and perform innovative animal research in the field of virology. The Douam Lab is located at the National Emerging Infectious Disease Laboratories and focuses on defining critical virus-host interactions that govern viral pathogenicity and anti-viral immunity during infection. To do so, we are using cutting-edge humanized mouse models (mouse reconstituted with a human immune system and/or human liver) as well as innovative cell culture-based systems.
The Research Assistant will have the responsibility of supporting the critical animal research of the laboratory in biocontainment level 1, 2 and 3. Important tasks will notably includes maintaining mouse colonies, perform anesthetic and surgical procedures, tissue xenotransplantation, genotyping and (cross-breeding), etc.
In addition, the humanized mouse platform manager will provide training and assistance to fellow lab members with their animal research, as well as ensure that all fellow lab members comply with ethical research procedures.
At mininum, a Bachelor's degree is required with 1-3 years of laboratory experience.
Strong team spirit and good communication skills are crucial. Previous experience in mouse handling and care is required. Candidate with additional experience in mouse colony maintenance, mouse (cross-)breeding, surgical and anesthetic procedures, various types of injections/tissue extraction, multi-color flow cytometry, ELISA and/or PCR are strongly encouraged to apply.
Previous experience in working in high-biocontainment laboratory level 3 is not required, but the candidate will be expected to go through specific training to work at such biocontainment level. A preference will be given to candidates with the intent to commit to this position for at least 2 years.
