Position Summary: Under the general direction of the Nutrition, Family and Consumer Sciences (NFCS) Advisor, the Program Manager (Community Education Supervisor 2) is responsible for overseeing the design, delivery, management, and evaluation of the Central Sierra MCP's CalFresh Healthy Living Program for low income adults and youth (a SNAP-Ed program). The Central Sierra MCP includes El Dorado, Amador, Calaveras, and Tuolumne counties.
The overall goals of the program are to 1) promote literacy of food and nutrition, and 2) support communities where low-income students, adults and families can live healthy lifestyles. These goals are accomplished by directly teaching youth and adults (or training volunteers to extend lessons) about healthy eating, food resource management, food safety, and physical activity. These goals are also accomplished by creating policies, systems and environments that contribute to a healthy community, including but not limited to: school and community gardens, school and worksite wellness policies, fitness programs, etc.
To support the program, the Program Manager (Community Education Supervisor 2) works with the NFCS Advisor, the Program Coordinator, and program staff to deliver high-quality nutrition education and programming. Responsibilities include supervising and training staff, overseeing annual budgets and expenditures, developing and implementing yearly work plans, tracking/evaluating work plan activities and objectives, and writing reports. This position ensures approved procedures are followed across the Central Sierra, serves as the primary point of contact with funding agencies, collaborates with other agencies providing related services in the Central Sierra, builds and maintains formal and informal coalitions of partners, supports nutrition education and other strategies to promote community nutrition, and maintains subject matter competence.
This position will promote, in all ways consistent with other responsibilities of the position, the affirmative action goals established by the Division and the University as a contractor of the federal government. The position will also take all measures necessary to assure that any employee or intern supervised by the position fulfill their affirmative action responsibilities.

Employment is contingent upon fingerprinting clearance from both the Department of Justice and the FBI, prior to the first day of UC employment.
Periodic travel outside of designated county for meetings/trainings. Must possess a valid California driver's license to drive a County/University/Personal vehicle.
Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability insurance and property damage on vehicle used is required.
Must have ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends and, on occasion, to travel overnight outside of the county.
UC ANR locations are smoke and tobacco free effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.
Must successfully complete the online course, Human Participants Protection Education for Research Teams, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.
Must successfully complete ServSafe Manager Certification course either online or through trainings.

Work individually and as a team with NFCS Advisor, Program Coordinator, program staff, and/or county-based agencies/organizations to develop and implement annual budgets and work plans. Set short term goals and priorities.
Promote a positive team culture and open communication across all five Central Sierra offices. Travel throughout the area as necessary to accomplish duties, and use current and emerging technologies to maintain effective team communication and collaboration across distances.
Train program educators, support staff, and/or volunteer extenders to deliver approved curricula and related activities. Ensure program goals are reached, programmatic quality is high, and compliance with funding requirements is maintained.
Directly supervise Program Coordinator and staff nutrition educators. Provide day-to-day oversight and advice on program development and delivery. Ensure accountability and stewardship of program resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with USDA SNAP-Ed Guidance and UC ANR policies and procedures. Analyze and resolve problems, interpret policies, and demonstrate solid subject matter knowledge.
Oversee the recruitment, selection and hiring of new program staff.
Administer performance requirements and schedules of subordinates. Mentor educators, support staff, and interns regarding problems that may affect work performance. Evaluate the performance of Program Coordinator and staff nutrition educators.
Recommend resolutions to grievances, complaints, or other complex issues raised by staff.
Provide opportunities for program-related staff professional development.
Assist with CalFresh Healthy Living-related applied research and evaluation projects.
