The UW Department of Tax Management has an outstanding opportunity for a Compliance Analyst. This position will assure data submitted in tax documents is in compliance with all university, state and federal requirements. Communicate requirements to university through maintenance of website, preparation and delivery of instructional materials, and response to customer inquiries. Work with partners/complete research to define business requirements if more detail is required. Duties & Responsibilities:Collect and organize data from stakeholders for preparation of tax forms. Review data to assure accuracy and completeness. Assist in the completion of the 990-T Exempt Organizations Business Income Tax Return, and complete additional fax forms, including Forms 720, 1099 and 1042-S, State Excise Tax Returns and City of Seattle Parking and Admissions Tax Returns. Given the diversity of UW business in different sectors, research tax policy and regulation to ensure tax forms are properly completed and campus units are provided accurate direction.Identify training needs for tax related issues such as sales tax, UBIT and independent contractors. Design and prepare instructional materials and deliver on-line and in-person training.Respond to telephone and email inquiries from university clients regarding various tax matters including sales and use tax, and other taxes associated with the University of Washington. Provide advice to university clients regarding filing of Forms 1099, 1042-S, 1098-T and other information returns filed by the University of Washington.Maintain Tax Office website which communicates information to the University community regarding tax compliance and questions. Review website regularly to assure information is up-to-date with accurate information. Draft content and update website using content management system (Drupal). Research tax matters as required.Assist in tracking potential federal, state and local tax issues by ensuring excellent communication with all departments.Schedule and participate in tax compliance meetings and attend tax meetings across the university where necessary.Assist with internal and external audits by identifying and collecting requested records, working with UW internal auditors, outside auditors for financial statements and outside auditors from City, State and Federal governments. For detailed information on Benefits for this position, click here.Required Qualifications:* Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field of study; * Three years of experience in a tax, accounting, compliance or related role;* Excellent communication skills; * Experience in communicating complex information to non-technical users;* Self-starter, demonstrated initiative to develop knowledge and skills; * Resourcefulness in researching, interpret and understand complex compliance requirements;* Consistent attention to details and accuracy of work;* Proficiency/expert level skills in MS Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint* Ability and willingness to learn additional technical and technological skills Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.Desired Qualifications:* C.P.A.* Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Washington state excise tax issues* Demonstrated knowledge and experience in federal exempt organization tax matters* Demonstrated knowledge and experience with data analysis* Experience leading and participating in process improvement efforts using Lean methodology. * Experience with Convey and/or Glacier Tax Compliance Software.
