Overview
The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is a world-class fusion energy research laboratory managed by Princeton University for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. PPPL is dedicated to developing the scientific and technological knowledge base for fusion energy. The Laboratory advances the fields of fusion energy and plasma physics research to develop the scientific understanding and key innovations needed to realize fusion as an energy source for the world. The Mechanical CAD Section Head supervises and directs the mechanical CAD Group and is responsible for the electronic release and maintenance of all mechanical documentation and associated 3D data. This position supports Engineering, Manufacturing and Research groups to provide documented designs per requirements and per PPPL procedures. This position reports to the CAD Group Head.
Responsibilities
The Mechanical CAD Group Head will supervise subordinates and contractors to complete assignments and coordinate efforts per project schedules. The Mechanical CAD Group Head will support developing design concepts and/or details after receiving guidance on the fundamental requirements from the requesting engineer. This position will support any design reviews as needed. PLM (Windchill) administration and support lab wide. Support developing departmental standards and procedures. PPPL experimental systems includes high field, high current electromagnetic coils, vacuum vessels, heavy structural components, high heat flux components, diagnostic systems, and experimental area layouts. Support 3D printing of prototype parts and assemblies.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: - AS degree in Mechanical Design Technology or equivalent technical institute and/or industry experience preferred. Management experience of a CAD group required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Expert level PTC Creo knowledge required.
- Solid PTC Windchill PLM knowledge or equivalent experience desirable.
- Familiarity with other 3D mechanical CAD programs useful.
- Senior level electro-mechanical design skills required.
- Strong documentation and manufacturing practices knowledge mandatory.
