The Irvine Division of the Academic Senate represents the Irvine faculty in the shared governance of the University of California. The Academic Senate is empowered by the Regents to determine academic policy, set conditions for admission, and granting of degrees, advise the Chancellor on the campus budget, authorize, and supervise courses and curricula, and advise the administration on faculty appointments and promotions. A team of knowledgeable Senate analysts works together to facilitate the work of shared governance.
Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices, policies, and procedures; research, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. The CAP Analyst supports the Council on Academic Personnel's (CAP's) review of UCI faculty personnel actions involving appointment, merit and promotion, and terminal decisions. The Analyst provides analytical and administrative expertise, interprets relevant University policies, develops approaches for the application of various policies, accurately transmits the Council's decisions, and ensures that the Council operates efficiently from an administrative standpoint. Acts as liaison for CAP with the Academic Senate Cabinet, other relevant Senate councils and committees, campus administrative officers and their staffs, and other UC Senate Office CAPs.
Minimum five years of relevant professional experience
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
Strong policy analysis techniques.
Analytical/problem-solving skills. Skills to analyze, organize, evaluate, and document pertinent information.
Insight and flexibility necessary to establish rapport and develop trust with new council and subcommittee chairs and members.
Strong skills in analyzing, researching, and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals/analyses.
Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
Capacity and skill to deal tactfully and effectively with extremely complex and confidential matters associated with the sensitive and highly specialized nature of faculty reviews.
Ability to judge what information should be shared with different levels of staff and management.
Ability to work with online data management tools and programs to prepare agendas and materials that must be archived, and to disseminate and collect sensitive information among council members.
Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and shared document platforms (e.g., Google Docs).
Highly developed writing skills to analyze, interpret, accurately document, and report findings, transmit recommendations and actions.
Ability to compile accurate documentation, formulate logical and objective conclusions, and make recommendations for appropriate action.
Preferred:
Knowledge of the Standing Orders of the Regents, Systemwide Academic Senate Bylaws and Regulations, and Divisional Senate Bylaws and Regulations Knowledge of Robert's Rules of Order.
Knowledge of sources for information at UCI and at the UC systemwide level.
