LCRA is seeking a strategic leader for its Accounting function who will also serve as a key member of the finance leadership team. The Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for all accounting functions including general ledger, fuel and asset accounting, accounts payable, billing and payroll, financial data systems, preparation of all required financial statements, and internal and external financial reporting. This position will provide strategic as well as tactical direction to the accounting function and will lead all aspects of ongoing development of the diverse, multi-disciplined accounting staff.
Headquartered in Austin, Texas – LCRA has been electrifying the Texas Hill Country since 1934. We provide electricity and water for more than a million people, protect people from flooding on 600 miles of the lower Colorado River, and manage 11,000+ acres of parks. What you will do:
- Provides leadership and direction to a team of approximately 50 staff and to various contractors as for certain projects and/or audits.
- Provides expertise, advice and recommendations that contribute to superior performance and ensure efficient and effective accounting activities. Establishes, communicates and applies financial and cost accounting policies to transactions in a manner that produces accurate financial data. Ensures consistent application of accounting policy across the organization.
- Serves as a key resource and provides expertise to company projects and initiatives, including annual business plans and cost of service rate cases. Provides technical guidance on accounting issues to organization.
- Evaluates, develops and implements accounting policies and procedures. Reviews and approves any new activities or changes to existing accounting treatment. Evaluates and interprets accounting pronouncements for the LCRA. Ensures complex accounting issues are evaluated in a timely and thorough manner.
- Coordinates and communicates activities with other departments and the CFO to ensure alignment related to proposed transactions, conditions, events and other matters that have or may have a significant financial or accounting impact.
- Provides expertise and oversight to the establishment and monitoring of cost-effective internal controls that safeguard assets and provide assurances of accurate and timely accounting data.
- Coordinates with the organization’s external auditors during the annual audit as well as throughout the year on complex accounting issues or accounting research.
What qualifications you must have:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting plus eight or more years experience in accounting, including five or more years of supervisory experience. - Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

LCRA is funded by revenue we generate, the vast majority of which comes from generating and transmitting electricity. A very small portion of our revenue comes from selling water. We do not receive state appropriations or have the ability to levy taxes.
Our history
LCRA has deep roots in Texas, dating as far back as the Great Depression of the 1930s. We built the chain of dams that tamed the Colorado River and brought power to rural Central Texas for the first time.
